What Results Should You Expect After A Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover (MM) is a collection of restorative surgeries and procedures that can reverse a significant amount of damage and restore the look of a woman’s body after pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding.

Today we are going to talk about what you can expect in the way of mommy makeover results. We will talk about why someone would desire a mommy makeover, what selection of procedures are most often included, and tips for obtaining the best mommy makeover results.

Why Would A Woman Have An MM?

Having a baby can be one of the most joyful experiences a woman can have, and many women truly enjoy being pregnant. Something that a lot of women do not even think about during their pregnancy is how different their bodies will look after their baby is born. Pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing cause many changes to occur in a woman’s body and can sometimes cause structural damage.

Also, becoming a mother is a life-changing event and can reshape a woman’s identity forever. From the instant her child enters the world, there is a major shift in her responsibilities and priorities. When a woman looks at her body and sees that her once smooth, flat stomach is poochy and covered in stretch marks and her perfectly positioned full breasts are now droopy and deflated, it can be devastating. These physical changes, coupled with the overwhelming responsibilities of motherhood, can challenge a woman’s sense of identity and trigger self-doubt and depression.

A fabulous triple board-certified cosmetic surgeon like Dr. Angelina Postoev can help a woman recapture her sense of self and restore her confidence level with a personalized MM procedure.

Mommy Makeover Basics

An MM can consist of any number of surgical procedures or non-surgical treatments that help restore areas of a woman’s body that were affected due to the birth of a child.

Changes To The Abdomen

Most often, women will have damage to their abdominal muscles, which have been overly stretched or torn due to their expanding belly during pregnancy. They may also be carrying excess weight and fat in that area that has been hard to get rid of since the birth of their child. Excess fat also may have accumulated on the thighs, the back (bra roll), and the love handles, which has significantly altered their once slim figure. These issues are most often corrected through a combination of liposuction and a tummy tuck.

Changes To The Breasts

During pregnancy, a woman’s breasts can increase by around two cup sizes. The enlargement of the breasts can cause the formation of stretch marks and create loose skin that does not bounce back to its pre-pregnancy state. Most women will have some lasting changes to the shape, size, or total appearance of their breasts. Often, their breasts appear elongated, flat, and drooping down past their normal position. Some women also have issues with one breast hanging down lower than the other. These issues can be remedied through the addition of breast implants, a breast lift, a breast reduction, or a combination of these surgeries.

Other Aesthetic Changes

Pregnancy can take its toll on a woman’s entire body, and the hormone fluctuations alone can wreak havoc on her skin. Women can customize their mommy makeover to include facials like Diamond Glow or microneedling with radio frequency treatments such as SylfirmX.

Some women may desire to add a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) to their MM, a labiaplasty, or other surgical procedures to enhance their appearance. One of the best aspects of a MM is the ability to choose the exact procedures you desire to attain the results you want.

Mommy Makeover Results

Many women are curious to know what type of results they will get from a mommy makeover. The answer to this depends on a few things, such as, what issues are targeted for correction, the extent of correction needed, and the exact procedures or surgeries chosen to reach the desired result. Sometimes, the cosmetic surgeon will prepare a multi-step plan approach requiring a series of surgeries or procedures that are done over time.

Corrections To The Abdomen

During a mommy makeover, you can expect the cosmetic surgeon to make improvements to your abdominal area using tummy tuck surgery. This involves making an abdominal incision that runs along the bikini line, or sometimes two incisions, with another running vertically from the navel to intersect the bikini line.

The surgeon will repair any damage to the muscles that may be present by pulling them close and suturing them together. This usually will help to provide a flatter stomach and help with core strength and the urinary incontinence that many women deal with after having a baby.

Usually, the abdominal corrections will require liposuction to help remove unwanted accumulations of fat. Liposuction may be done on the love handles, the waist, abdomen, and may be extended to the back, depending on the results desired by the patient.

The surgeon will cut away and remove any loose extra skin, then pull everything together, placing sutures to hold the incisions together for proper healing.

The results of an MM tummy tuck will be skin that is more taut and proportionate, a flatter abdomen, and a stronger core, plus a slimmer waist, flanks, and back.

Corrections To The Breasts

Different techniques may be used to repair the look of the breasts during a mommy makeover.

  • Implants may be used to replace lost volume, which will enhance the size and symmetry of the breasts. Implant surgery techniques vary depending on the type and size of the implant. Generally, the surgeon creates an incision, places the implant in the desired location and closes the incision with dissolvable sutures when they are finished. The results are fuller breasts that look like they did (or better) before the pregnancy;
  • A breast lift may be done to correct droopy, saggy breasts. The surgeon removes any excess skin and relocates the breasts to their natural position on the chest. Sometimes implants are added to create volume, as a lift itself does not;
  • A reduction of the breasts may be done in some cases during a mommy makeover to create a more proportionate figure or restore the breasts to their former size. Using one of a few different incisional techniques, the surgeon eliminates the overabundance of breast tissue and reshapes the breasts to make them smaller and more symmetrical. Many times, a reduction during a MM requires a combination, including a breast lift. This is because pregnancy and nursing can make the breasts very heavy, and the skin is stretched past the point of no return. Removing excess breast tissue during a reduction cannot fix significant sagging, but combining this with a lift can result in nicely shaped breasts that have been returned to their rightful place.

How Soon Before You See Results For Your Mommy Makeover?

Some results will be evident right away. For instance, if you had a large amount of excess skin and residual fat in your midsection before your makeover, you would see an immediate improvement in this area. Likewise, if your breasts were droopy and had lost a significant amount of volume before your mommy makeover, you will see breasts that are more proportioned, sitting higher up, and the sagginess will be gone.

Each person is different and heals at their own pace, and the combination of procedures used for the MM will have an impact on how long it takes to fully heal so the final results can be seen.

The final results of your mommy makeover may take several months to a year to manifest. Keep in mind that part of the body’s natural healing response is swelling, so areas that have been targeted for your MM may be swollen for quite some time, masking the real results of your procedure. Normally, swelling from liposuction, a tummy tuck, and breast augmentation starts to subside after around three months, and patients can get a good idea of what their final results will look like, but it can take up to a year.

Want To Improve The Results Of Your Mommy Makeover?

Women who have a quality mommy makeover are always very pleased with their results, gain more self-confidence, and have a more positive body image. The surgeon and their team did their part, and now it is up to you to do yours.

To make sure the results come out the way you desire, it is important that you take good care of yourself during your recovery. This includes following all the directions you were given by your surgeon and attending all your follow-up appointments.

To preserve the results of your mommy makeover, you need to make healthy lifestyle choices, such as consuming a balanced and healthy diet while staying away from unhealthy food choices, avoiding excessive alcohol, not smoking, and making sure to stay well hydrated. Incorporating a good amount of physical activity into your schedule as well as getting adequate sleep will not only help you recover faster, but your results will last longer.
