What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a treatment for spider and varicose veins. A special solution is injected into the damaged vein that causes the walls of the vein to stick together.
Blood can no longer flow through the vein, and the vein is gradually absorbed by the body. Blood is re-routed through surrounding healthier veins.
What Should I Expect from My Sclerotherapy?
A small needle is used to inject the solution into the affected vein. You may feel a slight pressure as the solution enters the vein. Treatment takes 15 minutes to one hour, depending on the location and size of the vein.
We may have you stay at our practice for a short recovery to monitor how the solution is working. You may still be able to see the vein. Over the following days and weeks, the vein gradually disappears.
How Long Do the Results Last?
Veins that are treated with sclerotherapy are permanently destroyed. You may develop new spider and varicose veins in the same area.
