Do you feel self-conscious about your ears because you were teased as a child? Have you experienced an injury that resulted in a torn earlobe or desire to undo the results of gauge piercings? Do you always find ways to wear your hair so that your ears are hidden? You may be a good candidate for cosmetic ear surgery.

What Is Otoplasty Surgery?

Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgery of the ears. The procedure does not affect your hearing, and it is specifically intended to reconstruct the ears. Otoplasty is recommended for:
  • Asymmetry between the ears;
  • Overly large ears;
  • Underdeveloped or small ear lobes;
  • Ears that stand out from the head;
  • Repairing torn or stretched earlobes;
  • Re-shape or trim earlobes that are abnormally large or mis-shapen.

What Is Earlobe Repair & Reduction?

Earlobe repair surgery can remedy several different types of earlobe issues. Earlobe trauma may be caused by wearing heavy pierced earrings that cause the piercing site to stretch and enlarge over time, an accidental injury may leave the earlobe partially or fully torn, or gauge piercings can deform and stretch earlobes. These repairs are done as an in-office procedure using a local anesthetic with a fairly short recovery time. Earlobe reduction surgery can be a bit more involved and is used to re-shape or trim the lower part of an earlobe that is abnormally large, long, droopy, or fleshy.

What Should I Expect From My Ears Surgery?

We use several techniques for our ear surgery procedures. The incisions are placed along the natural creases and folds of the ear so that the scars are not visible after you fully heal. Otoplasty may involve:
  • Removal of soft tissue;
  • Fat grafting;
  • Removal or sculpting of cartilage;
  • Fine sutures to repair earlobe damage.
After the surgery, your ears are wrapped with a bandage. The most important aspect of the healing process is that you be very careful not to damage the ears. Cartilage can take some time to heal, and even the slightest impact can affect the final results.

How Long Do the Results Last?

Ear surgery results in permanent changes to your ear shape and size.

Your ears play an important role in your appearance. Instead of hiding your ears, learn how otoplasty can help.
