Morpheus8 Side Effects FAQs

What can I do about scabbing after microneedling?

Some patients experience scabbing after Morpheus8 but it is only temporary. The procedure causes small injuries to the skin that the body works to repair which sometimes results in scabbing. Do not pick the scabs or rub them off or you may cause scarring. Any scabs that develop will slough off naturally as the body produces a new layer of healthy, smoother, and tighter skin.

How long does it take for skin to heal after microneedling?

Each patient is different and healing times will differ depending on skin type, type of microneedling treatment, and intensity of the treatment administered. Morpheus8 treatments normally take between 3 and 7 days to visibly heal.

Why does my skin look worse after microneedling?

The process of microneedling with Morpheus8 works deep down in the skin’s layers. Even though the needles used are very tiny, they are creating tiny channels in the areas that are treated which the body recognizes as an injury.

The human body is equipped with a natural healing response that begins to kick in when these micro-injuries happen. The first responders when a skin injury arises are the immune cells that rush in to cleanse the area. These are the culprits that also cause swelling and scabbing.

So while your skin may look worse to you during this healing phase, many repair efforts are going on that will result in new skin that has a more youthful appearance. It will be worth it!

Does skin flake after microneedling?

You may be wondering if it is normal to peel after microneedling and the answer is yes, many people do experience minimal peeling, flaking, or shedding after Morpheus8.

Flaking, peeling, and shedding of dead skin are part of the normal process of skin cell turnover. Some patients notice visible shedding and others experience a dry powder-like residue on their face for a 5 to 7 day period.

Initially, it is recommended that the treatment areas be covered with a moisturizing substance such as Aquaphor but after a few days of healing, a gentle exfoliator can be used to assist in the removal of the dead skin cells.

How long does dryness last after microneedling?

Your skin may feel tight and dry for up to two weeks depending on the type of microneedling treatment you received and the intensity of the treatment.

Your cosmetic surgeon will recommend a topical moisturizing treatment for you to keep on your skin until it has healed.

Does Morpheus8 damage skin?

The most common side effect after Morpheus8 is a red flush similar to a mild to moderate sunburn. This may or may not be accompanied by small scabs. Neither of these is anything to be concerned about and should subside in a few days.

Can Morpheus8 cause nerve damage?

Morpheus8 does not cause nerve or thermal damage.

Who should perform my Morpheus8 procedure?

It is recommended that you go to a board certified cosmetic surgeon or specialist who has extensive experience performing Morpheus8 on the area of the body you are having treated. Morpheus8 has two different hand-held devices as well as different attachments that are custom designed to treat specific areas. In the hands of an unskilled provider, they may yield undesirable results.

  1. I did the Morpheus laser on my outer thighs on 10/17 with a specialist. It is still red and dry after 9 days. I am going on a trip next weekend and really want the redness to go away. It feels like it is healing because it was itchy a few days back. Is it normal to take this long to heal on my thighs? Is there anything I can do to expedite the healing?
