SmartLipo™ is a brand name for laser-assisted liposuction procedures. It is also referred to as laser liposuction or laser lipolysis. A small incision is created and the Smar tLipo laser fiber is inserted through a tube into the targeted area of excess fat. Using thermal energy, the laser melts the fat and the surgeon gently suctions it out. Using the laser is beneficial because it not only removes the excess fat cells but it tightens the surrounding area.

What Should I Expect from My SmartLipo?
Normally, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia and the patient can go home that day. The surgeon uses a special numbing solution that is injected into the treatment area. The surgeon makes tiny incisions in the targeted areas and a small tube containing a fiber-optic laser is inserted. SmartLipo works by using the laser to heat the targeted fat cells and liquifying them. Once in this liquid state, it is fairly easy to suction it out through a small tube-like medical device.
There are no stitches or drains after the procedure, just a few medical pads applied to the entrance areas. These pads will have to be changed every so often for a few days. Compression garments are vital for achieving your desired outcome and are worn for 4-6 weeks after SmartLipo. The final results will be dependent on how diligently the after-care instructions provided by the surgeon are followed.
How Long Do the Results Last?
The results of SmartLipo are permanent as long as the patient maintains their current weight. Once fat cells are removed, they do not come back; however, the remaining fat cells can grow larger. A healthy lifestyle that includes exercise should yield long-lasting results.
