Monsplasty in Atlanta, GA
Sometimes, weight changes, aging, or even genetics can cause excess fat to accumulate just above the pubic bone in an area called the mons pubis. This extra build-up of fat can create a bulge that can cause discomfort or be embarrassing, especially if it can be seen through your clothing.
At IBI Plastic Surgery & Med Spa, Dr. Angelina Postoev can perform a mons pubis reduction procedure (monsplasty) that can eliminate the excess fat and loose skin to create a flatter, smoother look.

Schedule A ConsultationWhat Is Monsplasty Surgery?
Monsplasty is also called FUPA (Fat Upper Pubic Area) surgery and is a cosmetic procedure that involves enhancing the mons pubis, which is the soft, fatty area located just above the pubic bone and below the abdomen. Excess fat and skin are removed to reduce the visible lump and tighten the skin in this area to enhance its appearance, improve your comfort, and boost your self-confidence.
Who Is A Candidate?
Individuals who are good candidates for monsplasty surgery should be in good health and free from medical conditions that could impact the surgery or recovery. You may wish to consider monsplasty surgery if you:
- Have excess skin or fat in the mons pubis area that causes discomfort or hygiene issues;
- Are experiencing difficulty with urination or sexual activity due to its size;
- Are self-conscious about the appearance of the area, especially in fitted clothing;
- Have realistic expectations for the results of the surgery.
Procedure Steps
The patient receives anesthesia to ensure comfort during the surgery.
The surgeon makes a small incision in the mons pubis area.
Excess skin and fatty tissue are removed to reduce bulging.
The remaining tissue is tightened to create a smoother contour. The incision is closed with sutures.
Benefits
Depending on the severity of the excess skin and fat located in the pubic area, monsplasty surgery can offer several benefits, including:
Improving the appearance by creating a flatter and firmer mons pubis area.
Reducing discomfort from clothing during physical activities and increasing mobility.
Improves hygiene and makes it easier to keep the area clean, reducing the risk of infection or irritation.
Boosts your confidence by aesthetically improving the area and removing excess skin and fat that can cause embarrassment.
Recovery
The recovery from monsplasty depends on how much correction was needed and the extent of the surgery, but can take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks to resume your normal schedule.
Immediately after the surgery, you may experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort, and most patients describe the pain as mild to moderate, but this can usually be managed with prescription or over-the-counter medication.
For the first 1–2 weeks, you will need to avoid:
- Heavy lifting;
- Running, jumping, or intense workouts, bending or straining your lower abdomen;
- Sexual activity;
- Soaking in baths, hot tubs, or swimming pools.
Results
You can expect a more contoured and aesthetically pleasing mons pubis area with minimal scarring after your surgery. The results of monsplasty are usually permanent as long as you maintain a stable weight.

FAQs About Monsplasty
Will Monsplasty Affect How I Go to the Bathroom or Have Sex?
You will not have any negative long-lasting issues with using the bathroom or having sex once your recovery from surgery is complete. During your recovery, you will need to avoid engaging in sexual activity until you are cleared by your doctor, but many patients report that sexual activity after monsplasty surgery is much improved.
Can Monsplasty Surgery Be Done with Other Procedures?
Yes! Monsplasty is often done along with a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), liposuction, or labiaplasty. Doing them together can help aesthetically enhance these areas and make everything look smooth and balanced, with only having to go through one recovery period.
Will I Have a Scar From Monsplasty?
Yes, you will most likely experience some scarring from the incision that is made during your surgery, but it is usually small and placed low enough to be hidden by underwear or swimsuit bottoms. The scar will gradually fade and become much less noticeable.
Is FUPA Surgery Only for Women, or Do Men Get Monsplasty Surgery Too?
Most patients are women, but men can also get monsplasty if they have excess fat or sagging in that area and desire for it to be removed or tightened.
Can the Fat Come Back After Surgery?
The fat cells that are removed are gone for good, but the ones that are left can still expand. Staying at a stable weight will help you maintain your results.
