What is Tumescent Liposuction?
Tumescent liposuction is a fat removal process that uses a solution injected into the fat layer to prepare it. This solution also contains a numbing agent that helps control discomfort and epinephrine to curb the potential bleeding during the procedure. Tumescent liposuction is considered a better, safer, and easier procedure than the traditional liposuction with less bruising, swelling, and downtime.

What Should I Expect from the Procedure?
The tumescent liposuction procedure begins with the surgeon injecting a solution into areas with excess fat. The solution is normally a mixture of a local anesthetic and epinephrine that fills up the fatty layer in the skin and causes it to swell and become a bit sturdier. The solution also causes blood vessels to shrink temporarily, which makes it easier for the surgeon to control the fat that is being extracted without excess bleeding, bruising or swelling.
Once the mixture has been injected, a small incision is made by the surgeon in the skin to insert a medical tool called a cannula. The cannula resembles a long, skinny tube and is attached to a special machine that uses suction to remove the unwanted fat. The fat is removed as the surgeon runs the cannula back and forth across the prepared fat layer and it is suctioned out.
After the procedure, the patient will wear a special compression garment that is designed to exert an even amount of pressure over the treated area to help control bruising, swelling, and fluid retention. This garment also helps keeping the area stable to retain the newly created contours as well as alleviate discomfort as you heal.
How Long Do the Results Last?
Fat cells that are removed during the tumescent liposuction are gone forever and will not grow back; however, the fat cells that remain do have the capacity to grow larger so it is important to maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine to preserve your results. The results of the tumescent liposuction are considered permanent as long as you maintain a consistent weight.
