About
Some individuals deliberately perform various exercises and weight training techniques to “bulk up” their calves. However, there are many who try jogging, dieting and various leg exercises in an attempt to reduce their calf size. Then, there are the dreaded “cankles” that plague some people despite all their efforts to eliminate them. There is not a specific technique or exercise that targets calf and ankle fat, but sleeker, slimmer calves can still be achieved through calf and ankle liposuction.
What is Calf and Ankle Liposuction?
The size of a person’s calves and ankles can make them self-conscious, affect how easily they can walk, impact their choices regarding clothing and footwear, and have an impact on their everyday lives. The good news is that there are a variety of procedures available that can help reduce the size of the calf and ankle area leaving a much more natural, contoured, and sculpted leg. Liposuction of the calves and ankles can remove unwanted fat deposits in a fairly simple liposuction procedure that can be done in a matter of a few hours and thick calves and ankles can be eliminated.
Calf and ankle liposuction is ideal for targeting small collections of fat that are difficult to reduce by diet and exercise alone.
What Are the Benefits of Calf and Ankle Liposuction?
Liposuction of the calves and ankles provides the following benefits to patients:
- Rids the puffiness in the calf and ankle area;
- Raises comfort when running or walking;
- Lower legs, calf and ankles appear slimmer and more symmetrical;
- Enhanced leg shape and contour;
- Boosts confidence to wear clothes that show the lower legs.
Who Is a Candidate for Calf and Ankle Liposuction?
You may be a good candidate for Calf and Ankle liposuction if you normally maintain a consistent healthy weight within 30% of your ideal body weight and have good skin elasticity but have been unable to eliminate fatty deposits in your lower legs, calves, and ankles, and have realistic expectations regarding the results. Liposuction is not recommended for people who smoke or have any serious chronic illnesses.
What Should I Expect from the Procedure?
Liposuction on the calves and ankles is always performed as a unit together to ensure that the lower leg proportions are maintained and look natural. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia using a medical device called a cannula which resembles a very thin steel tube. The surgeon inserts the tube, through tiny incisions that are strategically placed, into the fat layer of the calves or ankles and while staying parallel to the skin, moves the cannula slowly back and forth through the fat layer, to break up the fat cells, and suction them out. Using local anesthesia helps foster a quicker recovery and eliminates any possible complications that can arise from using general anesthesia.
After the procedure, patients will wear compression stockings for a period of time to help keep down swelling as well as enforce the new shape of their calves and ankles. Patients may experience swelling the first few weeks and tire easily when walking but these will subside as healing progresses. Normally individuals can return to work in just a few days unless the nature of their job would interfere in the healing process. Most patients can resume all normal activities after 6-8 weeks.
Calf and ankle liposuction can not fully eliminate cellulite or saggy skin but other procedures such as Evolve TRIM by InMode can be used to address these issues. Fat deposits are more common around the thigh area but sometimes can occur around the calf and ankle area. A consultation between you and your surgeon is advised to create a treatment plan to obtain your desired aesthetic goals.
How Long Do the Results Last?
The results of calf and ankle liposuction are considered permanent as long as your current weight and fitness level are maintained. Fat cells that have been removed via liposuction do not come back however, those remaining can fluctuate and expand.
