What is a Breast Augmentation?

No matter your age or stage in life, you may find that your breasts are not the shape or size that you prefer. You may have experienced weight loss, pregnancy, or simply have an imbalance in the size of your breasts, with one larger than the other. You may have even undergone a surgery or other injury to one or both breasts. You are looking for a boost in confidence, a restoration of the youthful curves you once had, and a restoration of symmetry and fullness to feel more like yourself.

Breast augmentation using silicone implants, or fat transfer is the ideal solution to restoring or creating breasts that are full, shapely, and give the appearance of a more youthful silhouette.

Who is an Ideal Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

Ideal candidates for breast augmentation surgery (also referred to as a “boob job”) are women whose breasts have fully developed, who are physically healthy, and who are not pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are looking for just a nipple lift, Dr. Angelina may elect to use BodyTiteâ„¢, a minimally-invasive contouring procedure that uses radio-frequency-assisted lipolysis to contour the breast and lift the nipple by up to three cm, avoiding the need for excisional surgery. This procedure is also known as a scarless breast lift.

What Happens During a Breast Augmentation Consultation?

Before surgery, you will meet with Dr. Angelina to review your medical history and to discuss the breast augmentation surgery and your breast implants, set realistic expectations, and to ask any questions. Together with Dr. Angelina, you will review implant types, sizes, shapes, textures, and try on sample implants to determine the right implants for you. You will be given oral collagen supplements to take beginning a week before your surgery in order to minimize bruising.

What Can I Expect During Breast Augmentation Surgery?

Breast augmentation surgery is performed under general anesthesia at our JCAHO accredited surgery center located in Gwinnett county in Loganville, GA, which is convenient to Snellville, Grayson, Lawrenceville, Conyers, and surrounding cities in the metro Atlanta area. The duration of the surgery depends on the type of breast augmentation procedure you select. During that time, Dr. Angelina will provide an injectable pain medication called Exparel that lasts for 48-72 hours, eliminating the need for stronger oral pain medication after surgery. She will then create an incision and place the implant, and depending on the type chosen, fill the implant to the desired level, repeating the same on the other side. Alternatively, your own fat could be used to enhance your breast size. Read about breast fat transfer procedure.

About Breast Implant Removal

Although rare, sometimes women choose to have their implants removed for medical or cosmetic reasons. If necessary, Dr. Angelina can also assist in removing breast implants in addition to revising previous surgeries that resulted in less than desirable results.

What Recovery Time is Associated with Breast Augmentation Surgery?

After surgery, surgical tape and dressing will be applied to the incisions to protect them and facilitate healing. You may experience mild pain, swelling, bruising, and tenderness, most of which will be managed in the first two days with the injectable pain medication provided during surgery. After two days, over-the-counter pain medication should be sufficient to manage postoperative pain. For optimal results, you should take care to follow any post-operative restrictions and advice, including when you can return to work, lifting things heavier than 20 lbs., or when you may resume your usual activities.
